Yongin Sewage Treatment Facilities exceeded 600 million tons of sewage treatment cumulatively
The Yongin Sewage Treatment Facilities, operated by Samsung Engineering, have treated over 600 million tons of sewage cumulatively.
Samsung Engineering announced that the sewage treatment facilities it operates in Yongin, including Suji Respia, have treated over 600 million tons of sewage cumulatively. Suji Respia is a large sewage treatment facility of 124,560m² at the heart of Yongin, which Samsung Engineering operates from 2010 to 2030. The company constructed and operates 12 sewage treatment facilities in Yongin, which handle 140,000 tons of sewage daily. The amount of sewage the facilities have treated for twelve years is 600 million tons, 2.5 times larger than the water stored in the Paldang Dam (240 million tons).
The facilities also demonstrate Samsung Engineering’s technological competence. The company placed all sewage treatment facilities underground, changing the perception. Also, Samsung Engineering applied PADDO system, which it patented, to reduce chemical use and minimize generation of nitrogen and phosphorus, which cause eutrophication in waters. The facilities also supplies 30,000 tons of water a day to Tancheon and Seongbokcheon, tributaries of the Han River, to prevent them from drying, and as a result recycle water resources and protect local ecosystems.
Suji Respia is recognized for its eco-friendly and resident-friendly concept. While placing sewage treatment facilities underground, Samsung Engineering built a resident center, sports center, art hall, soccer field, field track and park on the ground for the residents’ convenience and a 120-meter observation tower. In recognition, Samsung Engineering won a prize in 2008 in the design category of the East Asia/Pacific region in the Project Innovation Award from International Water Association (IWA).
A spokesperson of Samsung Engineering, said, “We have ample project experience in Korea and overseas and distinctive technological capabilities in the eco-friendly O&M sector such as sewage treatment. We plan to expand the ESG business including green infrastructure for stable profit.”
